Beyond the standard itinerary
Food, ryokans, crafts and the Japan you remember
Japan becomes more meaningful when a journey connects places to the people, traditions and everyday rituals that give them character.
Neighbourhood restaurants
Traditional ryokan stays
Ceramics and local crafts
Food, sake and onsen culture
Taste tells the story of a place
Food in Japan changes from region to region and season to season. Tiny restaurants, family-run businesses, markets and local specialities can reveal as much about a destination as its famous landmarks.
Sachi’s approach is not about assembling a checklist of viral venues. It is about choosing experiences with character and helping travellers understand the customs, ingredients and context around them.
A ryokan is more than accommodation
A traditional ryokan stay brings together hospitality, architecture, food and ritual. Tatami rooms, shared customs and carefully presented meals can feel unfamiliar at first, which is why a little guidance makes the experience richer and more relaxed.
The Spring 2027 journey concludes with a ryokan stay, while bespoke itineraries can explore countryside accommodation and onsen towns suited to each traveller’s comfort and interests.
Craft carries knowledge forward
Ceramics and traditional crafts connect design to material, landscape and generations of skill. Meeting makers or visiting places where craft is practised shifts the experience from shopping for an object to understanding how and why it was made.
These interests are also shaping the forthcoming Makers of Kyushu journey, celebrating local makers, food traditions and family-run businesses in a region close to Sachi’s heart.
